Domestic Partner and Same Sex Couples
History was made on June 26, 2015 when the Supreme Court ruled that bans against same sex marriage were in violation of the 14th Amendment. The laws governing domestic partnership and same sex couples have always been complex and even with this ruling remain so today. As we celebrate the decision by the US Supreme Court, we now look at the implications it has on established partnerships and common law marriages.
We advise gay and lesbian clients regarding the law that applies in Texas in his/her circumstance, keeping in mind how very personal such a situation is.
